Andrews Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center

Dr. Paulos and Associates Clinics

On your first appointment you will first be seen by our patient care coordinator who will take a brief history and order X-RAYs if appropriate. Next you will be seen by Dr. Paulos' Orthopedic Associate (Fellow) or his Physician Assistant who will examine you and take a more comprehensive history prior to Dr. Paulos examining you.

The fellow and PA also run an evaluation clinic where some patients who have not been seen by a physician and/or health care provider are evaluated and screened with diagnostic tests and then referred to Dr. Paulos in order to save you time and money. As soon as the test results are in you will be seen by Dr. Paulos the same day or quickly thereafter.

What is an Orthopedic Fellow?

A fellow is an orthopedic surgeon who is fully licensed and board eligible. They are chosen from over 100 qualified surgeons who are graduates of top orthopedic training programs nationwide. They have graduated from Medical School and Orthopedic Residency. Please understand, they are not students.

If I require surgery will a Fellow be present?

Yes, the fellow plays an integral role in the surgical management of the patient. The Fellow will assist Dr. Paulos under his direction. Surgery is performed by Dr. Paulos, who is responsible for all decisions. In some difficult cases, a fee will be billed to you (and your insurance company) for the fellow's assistance. Only procedures authorized by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons will be billed. Patients will be seen in the hospital by the Fellow, but always have close contact with Dr. Paulos should questions arise.
